Fixing 101: Bed

For the past few months, I was sleeping on a broken bed. Nothing dramatic, only a piece of wood that was detached so the landlord came today to fix it. Also, for the past few weeks, my boyfriend was complaining about my mattress stating that it was not very comfortable.

This morning, I had a Chinese 101 lesson on how to fix and to make your bed. The bed looks very nice but as soon as you take out of the mattress, you can see that the bed is like an IKEA bed but "made in China." To fix my broken bed, I discovered that my landlord used this Chinese glue which was the solution to any patching job... The magic thing that will fix everything. Add some Chinese glue here, add some Chinese glue there, wait for 10 minutes and tada: everything is fixed. When was time to put my mattress back, I realized why my boyfriend was complaining: the mattress was put up side down... Chinese mattresses are not like those from back home, there is a side that you is good and not-so-good.

For the past few weeks, I didn't have any hot water. Mind you that I did not really care because I could stand warm water and I was spending couple nights a week at my boyfriend's place but as the cold hit Shanghai, I just wanted a really hot morning shower... The landlord also came to fix it but his Chinese glue was not the right tool to fix it. He should be back by the end of the week. I wonder what kind of special thing he will pull out of his tool box to fix it!

Feeling at home is not a notion in the past that I would have care. Being away from Canada for the past year and a half, home has become the place where I would sleep, eat, and have all my belongings. Last summer, I was housitting for two months and though living in four stars service appartment and 5,000USD per month appartment was great, nothing beat the feeling of moving into her own appartment.

Since lat August, my home is now Shanghai, in this appartment where I share with 3 flatmates from England.
